About the event

On November 25, 2021, Moscow hosted the X International Forum «Broadband Russia Forum: Transformation of Broadband Networks of Cellular, Wired and Satellite Communications in the Era of 5G, Smart Cities and Digital Economy” organized by ComNews Information Group with the support of the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation.

The event was attended by over 350 representatives of fixed, mobile and satellite operators, telecommunications equipment manufacturers, government authorities and international industry associations and business communities.

The Forum was supported by important partnerships and associations: Wireless Broadband Alliance, Non-Profit Partnership RUSSOFT, IT&Digital Directors Club, Russian Association for Electronic Communications (RAEC), Telecommunication Technologies Consortium (ANO TT), Internet of Things Association (IOTAS), International Telecommunications Academy (ITA).

The partners of the event were key developers of telecommunications equipment: Huawei became the strategic partner of the Broadband Russia 2021 forum, Nokia and TransTeleCom Company (TTK) were silver sponsors, Keysight Technologies was bronze sponsor, and IskraUralTEL became the innovative partner.

The forum was also held with the participation of the companies Optical Fiber Systems, Edinstvo (Norilsk Nickel) and the City Online project.

The exhibition general participants were the companies T8, Huawei and the Russian Week of High Technologies.

Leonid Konik, General Director and Editor–in-Chief of ComNews Information Group, opened the forum with his welcome speech.

As part of the Global Vision session, world experts made online reports on national broadband access development programs in different countries and regions: Mr. Lacina Koné, member of the ITU-UNESCO Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development, Director General and CEO of Smart Africa, and Mr. Vincent Garnier, Director General of the FTTH Council Europe. Also Mr. Zhao Lei, President, Carrier Network Business Group, Huawei Eurasia, made the offline presentation on the sustainable development of broadband infrastructure.

In the plenary discussion, Vladimir Valkovich, Director of Strategy and Long-term Planning of Network Development, VimpelCom, Natalia Velikorodnyaya, Head of the Government Relations Department, MTS, Evgeny Devyatkin, Director of the Center for Research of Advanced Wireless Communication Technologies (CI BTS), Radio Research and Development Institute NIIR, Irina Levova, Director of Strategic Projects, Internet Research Institute, Tatiana Mokhova, Director General, Edinstvo (Norilsk Nickel), Vladimir Mochenov, Deputy Director of the Department for the Development of New Telecommunications Services, Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation, Konstantin Khrulkov, Director of Infrastructure Services, Rostelecom, Maxim Chernov, Director of Information Infrastructure Direction, Autonomous Non-Commercial Organization Digital Economy, Vadim Shaibakov, Executive Adviser, Huawei Eurasia, Vitaly Shub, Head of the Leading 5G Research Center, Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech), discussed the possibilities of telecommunications infrastructure location, as well as the issues of interaction between the state and the operators community in the era of the economy global digitalization and communication networks modernization.

The large-scale second session was held by Vadim Poskakukhin, Project Manager, Spectrum Management Company. Reports on 5G networks new access technologies and the deployment in the broadband segment were made by Tiago Rodriguez, CEO, Wireless Broadband Alliance, Dmitry Timerkhanov, Technology Director in the Eastern Europe Region, Nokia, Pavel Sirotinkin, Marketing Manager, Huawei Eurasia, Alexey Kobozev, Head of the Telecommunications Industry Relations, Keysight Technologies, Konstantin Dzakhoev, Head of Sales, IskraUralTel, Bruno Cornaglia, Fixed Access Manager, Vodafone, Leonid Konik, General Director and Editor–in-Chief, ComNews Information Group, Vitaly Shub, Head of the Leading 5G Research Center, Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech), Andrey Nikolaev, Director General, Optical Fiber Systems, Dmitry Tsyganko, Director of Technology, Telecommunication Technologies Consortium (ANO TT).

At the end of the session, Vladislav Davydov, Director General, IskraUralTel, presented Anatoly Kovalenko, Head of the Subscriber Equipment Office, Rostelecom, with a sign of recognition for the trust in products in honor of installing the millionth device.

The business program of the forum was completed by the round table on the development strategies of telecom operators, M&A transactions, new assets for acquisition, and interactions with players from other markets. The round table was held by Georgy Nikolsky, partner, Capstone Capital. The Broadband Russia 2021 Forum has shown the importance of the dialogue between telecom operators and government representatives, and also became a platform for exchanging experience on such serious issues as expanding broadband infrastructure for the tasks of 5G cellular networks and development opportunities for telecom operators in the direction of mergers and partnerships with players from other markets.
