MegaFon is Russian integrated telecommunications operator that holds leading positions in the telecommunications market. The company and its subsidiaries operate across Russia’s regions and in Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Tajikistan. As of the end of 2018, the company had more than 75.445 million subscribers.
MegaFon is an innovation leader and has the most saturated infrastructure of any Russian operator. This infrastructure includes 227,961 base stations, 87,611 of which use LTE.
MegaFon was the first Russian operator to roll out 3G, 4G, LTE and LTE Advanced and is spearheading the development of 5G. MegaFon was one of the first in the world to launch a commercial Gigabit LTE network. In 2017, MegaFon set an absolute mobile internet speed record in Russia, demonstrating 5G speeds of 35 GB/s. It also obtained permission from the state commission for frequencies to create test 5G zones at the FIFA World Cup 2018.
The company traditionally pays special attention to connection quality and offers subscribers the fastest internet. MegaFon has been recognised by Ookla for the Fastest Mobile Internet Network in Russia.
MegaFon is actively engaged in the state Digital Economy program and is creating integrated solutions for government and business and rolling out new technologies across Russia. Agreements have already been reached with administrations in the Ulyanovsk, Pskov, Novgorod, Ryazan, Tula and Saratov regions, among others, as well as with the St Petersburg government and the Republics of Udmurtia and Kalmykia. Development priorities include big data and the Internet of Things (IoT).
