About the event

The 12th International Conference “Transport Networks Russia & CIS: Transport Telecommunication Networks Development in Russia and CIS” was successfully held on April 21-22 in Moscow. Taking care of its partners’ health, ComNews Group organized online participation opportunity for both listeners and speakers of the conference. Traditionally dedicated to the transport communication networks market development in Russia and neighboring countries, the event gathered more than 390 participants on the offline/online platform, including main transport networks operators, cellular and fixed communications operators, corporations and institutions’ communication networks operators, representatives of research institutions, infrastructure equipment manufacturers, system integrators, consultants and market analysts, investment companies, as well as business and industry media.

 

The partner of TransNet 2021 was Rostelecom, and the conference was also traditionally supported by Huawei that acted as the Platinum sponsor.

 

The Gold sponsor in 2021 was Zummer, and the Silver sponsor was TransTeleCom (TTK). The Bronze sponsors were Transneft Telecom, Infinera, Ciena, and ADV Consulting System Integrator, as well as ER-Telecom Holding.

The plenary session of Transnet 2021 conference was opened by the analytical report by Jonathan Hjembo from the consulting company TeleGeography about the market of the main transport networks Europe – East Asia in 2021. After that, the participants passed on to the plenary discussion devoted to the global market of main transport networks and the prospects for its development. The discussion was attended by: Vsevolod Korzhaev, Project Director of the Department for Interaction with International Telecom Operators of Rostelecom; Olga Makarova, Director of the Internet and Channel Resources Department of the Operator Business Development Unit of the MTS Group Corporate Center; Konstantin Lukin, Director General, Ph. D., SUPERTEL; Evgeny Zhukov, Director of Fixed-Line Technical Solutions of Huawei; Yury Lubin, Technical Director of Zummer; Konstantin Kolesov, Head of Data Transmission Strategic Development of the Directorate for Interaction with Telecom Operators and Roaming of VimpelCom; Przemyslaw Gongala, Director of International Sales at HAWE Telekom, who participated online; Alexander Vlasov, Director General of Arctic Link Rus; Ilya Bulaev, Commercial Director of TeliaCarrier Russia; Alexander Kotov, Technical Solutions Consultant – Technical Director of Vodafone Russia; Andrey Gorbunov, B2O Director of ER-Telecom Holding; and also Sergey Turomsha, Deputy Director General for Commercial Affairs of Beltelecom, who took part online.

 

The second session, moderated by Olga Makarova from MTS Group of Companies, was devoted to new technologies and opportunities for the development of transport networks. The session was opened with a report on cost optimization in the construction of the main transport network by Ilya Khmyrov, Senior Manager for Network Solutions at Huawei; Konstantin Lukin, Director General, Ph. D. of SUPERTEL, presented the report “5G. Dreams. Wishes. Reality”; Ciena solutions for ensuring competitive advantages in the time of rapid traffic growth were presented by Alexander Salivon, Ciena Senior System Engineer, his report was prepared jointly with ADV Consulting system integrator; Alexander Zemskov, technical consultant of Keysight Technologies, presented the report “Test laboratory, test automation, continuous testing, being the basis for of new technologies successful implementation”; Stanislav Shestov, senior technical consultant of the sales technical support department of Infinera, said that 800 Gbit/s is a reality already, and shared the technical aspects of implementation; Roman Venediktov, Executive Director of GlobalNet, presented their new unique route of the M11 “Neva” fiber-optic line.

 

After the lunch, the technology session, moderated by Sergey Shavkunov of J'son&Partners Consulting, continued with the following reports: Alexey Antonenko, Business Development Director of Orange Business Services Russia and CIS, described in his report “Tier 1 – operator in Russia. Redundancy or reasonable sufficiency?” how they connected Russia to the Tier 1 backbone network; Mikhail Mayorov, IT Deputy Technical Director at Svyaz Connect, shared his vision on the development of the network’s transport infrastructure, ways to monitor and maintain it; Timur Kurbanov, Senior Manager for Network Solutions at Huawei, presented the report “OTN to the node: new business stream”; Oleg Prokofiev, system engineer and consultant at Juniper Networks, who took part online, spoke about protection against DDOS attacks using the CoreroTDD solution on Juniper routers; Dmitry Blinnikov, Director General of Light Density, presented the report “ADVATeraflex. One platform from Metro networks to trunk networks”; Dmitry Petrov, Director General of Comfortel, presented a dynamic report “Cable sharing”. This session was sponsored by Orange Business Services.

 

The first day ended with a session dedicated to fiber-optic lines and communication networks as the basis for the information infrastructure development. The session was moderated by Andrey Nikolaev, Director General of Optical Fiber Systems, who was enabled to carry the session online from his office in Saransk thanks to modern technologies. At the beginning of the session, several reports were presented: Sergey Shavkunov, Executive Director of J'son&Partners Consulting, presented his analytical report on the state of Russia’s backbone fiber-optic networks development and the need to modernize them during the years 2020–2030; Andrey Ivanov, President of SMARTS, spoke about the multiplicative effect of the road telecommunications infrastructure introduction; Sergey Gladkikh, Director General of Moskabel-Fujikura, presented the report “Innovative Technologies are The Way to 5G”. After that, all the session participants discussed the problems of the industry, including the prospects for the development of Russian optical fiber and partnership cooperation of the Russian cable industry with telecom operators.

 

The second day of the conference was opened by round table session devoted to the use of the institutions and corporations’ infrastructure for conducting and operating fiber-optic lines. The discussion was attended by Viktor Shmytinsky, Telecommunications Adviser at Avtodor-Toll Roads; Vladimir Valkovich, Director for Strategy and Long-Term Planning of the Network Development of VimpelCom; Andrey Ivanov, President of SMARTS, and Gennady Chechin, Director for Interaction with Telecom Operators of Kvant-Telecom. The session was moderated by Leonid Konik, Director General and Editor-in-Chief of ComNews Group.

Then the conference continued with a session, moderated by Konstantin Novikov, Head of Sales to National Telecom Operators and Content Providers of MegaFon, about data centers, traffic exchange points and CDN. The partner of this session was MSK-IX. At the beginning of the session, some reports were presented: Igor Dorofeev, President of the Association of Data Center Industry Participants, presented a report on the problems and prospects of data centers regional expansion; Evgeny Zykov, head of the Optical Transport Systems Department at NAG, spoke about the options for connecting data centers. Then the session continued with free discussion in the framework of the round table “Data centers, traffic exchange points and CDN in the backbone market” where other experts joined the speakers: Evgeny Morozov, Commercial Director of MSK-IX; Zoran Perovic, Founder and CEO of SerbianOpeneXchange, who participated online; Nikolay Metlyuk, CEO, Co-founder, PITER-IX; Alexander Stepanenko, Director of Network Development of CDNvideo; Alexey Sokolov, Director of Network Infrastructure Development of Yandex; Roman Venediktov, Executive Director of GlobalNet, and Andrey Gorbunov, B2O Director of ER-Telecom Holding.

 

The final event of the conference was a round table attended by: Alexey Antonenko, Business Development Director of Orange Business Services Russia and CIS; Przemyslaw Gagala, International Sales Director of HAWE Telekom, who participated online both days; Alexander Kotov, Technical Solutions Consultant – Technical Director of Vodafone Russia; Andrey Ermurak, Regional Director of Lumen Technologies; Olga Makarova, Director of the Internet and Channel Resources Department of the Operator Business Development Unit of the MTS Group Corporate Center, and Maxim Akinin, Director of the Department for Interaction with International Telecom Operators of Rostelecom. With Georgy Nikolsky from Capstone Capital as moderator, the participants discussed issues of international and regional inter-operator cooperation, as well as new possible strategies of business partnership. At the beginning of the session, Przemyslaw Gagala from HAWE Telekom presented a report on this topic: “Expanding the services portfolio through partnership agreements”. His co-speaker was Wojciech Stramski, CEO of the company Beyond.pl.
